A qualification summary is a document that quickly and easily focuses the employer’s attention on your experience and capability to perform the required functions of the position. Resumes provide a thorough description of your experience and qualifications.

Qualification summaries may be more effective in getting in the door; especially if they are placed in the hands of a hiring manager.

For example, Qualification Profiles (used in The Targeted Referral Program of Job Referral 411) focus on one specific position. A one page, two-column format is used with contact information at the top with the job title. The most important required functions of the job are listed in the left column. Capabilities and experiences proving the ability to perform the function are listed in the right column. Quantification of the proof is important. Use a simple formatting technique that can be easily presented in a printed as well as an email format.
