The new job offer is not confirmed until you walk in the door for your first day of employment. Be prepared for detours along the way, primarily delays.

You can negotiate anything any time. Learn negotiating skills.

The best time for negotiating is during the conversation leading up to the receipt of the job offer. Compensation is more than salary. Maintain a list of items that are to be discussed. Know which are critical for you and which can be “traded” for something you want. Keep careful notes as to what was said and what was inferred about the job and the total compensation.

Get it in writing and always write a response. Don't hesitate to mention items needing clarification or that were left out. Do not agree until the entire compensation and work package is documented.
